East Tennessee, The Newest Loving Blue in Red States Story

It’s been a long year of nothing new released from me. I know as an author, I’m not alone. I’ve worked on things, but I just haven’t been able to finish anything. I committed to doing a short story for the Lady Grim Halloween Anthology and that lit a fire. I sat down and decided to do another short, keep that fire burning but not create too much stress for myself if the words didn’t flow easily. Loving Blue in Red States: East Tennessee was born.

I have to qualify something here: When I started the ‘Loving Blue’ series in 2018, I never intended for it to be an all women loving women (WLW) series. I always intended these stories to reflect more of the diversity of the LGBT community than just lesbians. I’ve had some diversity of age, a BIPOC main character in one of the stories, and one story had a focus on Mormonism, but in all cases the characters were lesbian or only focused on WLW relationships. This story, really a novelette, is different.

Our main character here, Grace, is bisexual, openly, and unabashedly. A shy woman, it’s the only thing she’s unabashed about. The person she tries not to fall for is Sam. She knew Sam in high school as ‘Samantha.’ Now several years removed from that time and place, they meet again only now Sam has been living as nonbinary and, as he is considering transitioning, he prefers male pronouns.

Not for everyone…

This story isn’t going to be for everyone; it’s certainly not going to appeal to some of my strictly lesfic/WLW readers. That’s okay. There will be other WLW stories from me. For the rest of you, I give you, Grace and Sam.

Loving Blue in Red States East Tennessee

Sparks fly when storytelling and drag racing collide off the track!

Loving Blue in Red States: East TennesseeEast Tennessee is a tranquil place of mountain vistas most of the time. It’s a place where storytellers abound, and people travel from all over the world to the annual Storyteller Festival in Jonesborough. The calm of the area is broken only occasionally when the racetracks in Bristol rev to life.

Grace loves her job as one of the directors of the International Storytelling Center. She’s found her calling. She’s anxious to continue pursuing both her education in the arts and her writing.

Her plans for her future set, Grace finds herself talked into taking on a project for Literacy Tennessee that she has little time for but a whole lot of passion. The project tugging at her heartstrings comes with other strings she’s not sure how to handle, like her old high school crush Samantha who’s now living life as Sam, a non-binary drag racer with almost as many plot twists to his story as he has runs down the dragstrip in Bristol.

Will Grace stick to her carefully laid out plot for her life, or will she let Sam throw a wrench into the works?

The book is available exclusively at Amazon and free to read via Kindle Unlimited. I hope you enjoy it. Please comment below or drop me a line and let me know what you thought.

As always, thanks for reading!
